About Me
God First. Retirement Planning Second.
God comes first in everything that I do. I am an unapologetic follower of Christ who believes that Financial planning is the outlet God gave me to make the largest impact, on the most people.
My Focus
Most financial planners spend their energy helping people with what I call the “accumulation” of assets. And while this is incredibly important, there are often unique challenges that soon-to-be retirees face in those critical years before they actually retire. This is where I focus most of my energy.
I refer to this as Safety-First Retirement Income Planning — helping people protect their savings, minimize market risk, develop forward-thinking tax strategies, create a reliable lifetime income plan, and leave a lasting, tax-efficient legacy for loved ones.
My Journey into Financial Planning
I unintentionally began my career in financial planning in 2009 — shortly after my college baseball career ended and about 9 months before graduating from the Colorado School of Mines with degrees in Engineering and Economics & Business.
The summer before graduation, I stumbled into a financial planning internship that changed my life. My original goal was simple: learn how to build a business and create a retirement plan for myself so I could (hopefully) retire early one day.
But what I discovered was far greater. I discovered a profession perfectly aligned with my strengths and a calling to help people in one of the most important areas of their lives.
By nature, I’m technical and analytical, but my greatest strength has always been connecting deeply with people. Financial planning allowed me to bring both together.
That first summer wasn’t easy — it took nearly the entire summer to land my first client — but once I did, I was off to the races. I finished my final semester while continuing the internship, and at the end of 2009 I graduated college and was named one of the top financial planning interns in the country.
That’s when I knew I had found the work that I wanted to dedicate my life to.
Immediately upon graduation I became a full-time financial planner. I immersed myself in all things financial planning – learning everything I could. I asked questions, read books, took courses, and surrounded myself with top financial planners, soaking up their knowledge and experience. That commitment paid off. Before my 25th birthday, I had built a business serving more than 300 clients, developed a deep technical foundation, and partnered with an incredible network of advanced, financial planning experts.
But the most important lesson I discovered along the way was this: my true gift is connecting deeply with people, and taking the complexity of financial planning and making it easy to understand.
Freedom & Financial Education
Ultimately, I realized that being tied to a single financial institution and its agenda wasn’t the best way to serve my clients long-term. While I did have to “start over” in terms of building a clientele, this decision gave me more flexibility and freedom — the freedom to shop the market for creative ideas, flexible solutions, and financial products better suited to help individuals and families succeed financially.
I have built an online community of 69,000+ people who follow my weekly retirement planning tips, tax strategies, and case studies. I have also published over 350 financial planning articles on a wide range of topics. I’m as committed to creating content and free resources as I am to helping each person I work with develop a plan that feels right for them.

Sharing Financial Wisdom
Life Outside the Office
When I’m not writing blogs, shooting videos, or helping people protect & grow their hard-earned wealth, you can usually find me in the mountains of Colorado. I’m a Colorado native who loves the outdoors — hiking steep trails, camping under the stars, four-wheeling, and chasing elk through the backcountry. When I’m not adventuring, I’m reading, writing, competing in racquetball tournaments, practicing yoga, fixing something I broke on my Toyota Tacoma, and most definitely spoiling my beloved nephews Henry and William.
Faith. Freedom. Purpose.
Life Isn't About Money
Life was never meant to be about money. Money is simply a tool — a resource that, when used wisely, creates freedom.
Freedom to spend your time how you choose. Freedom to be fully present with the people you love. Freedom to experience the places, passions, and opportunities that make life rich and meaningful.
My objective every day is to glorify God and help people step into retirement with that kind of freedom — with clarity, confidence, and peace of mind — so they can focus on what truly matters in the years ahead.
