Just Go One More

Nick Bare is one of my new favorite fitness guys.
He’s an ex-military guy, hybrid athlete, owns a very successful supplement company, and is an absolute beast in the gym (and out on the running trail).
His motto is, “Go One More”, which I absolutely love.
It’s such a simple yet powerful reminder that you can always go one more in anything you attempt.
This eliminates the idea of failure because, well, you’re not done!
The plan is to go one more.
And as long as you haven’t quit, you haven’t failed.
Maybe you haven’t seen the results in the gym the past couple months but what if you go just one more time?
And then one more again.
This idea of going one more allows you to focus on the process of building successful habits, helping you break big, seemingly insurmountable goals, into bite-sized, manageable habits.
If you read my first book, Relentless Forward Momentum I talk about this all of the time.
When it comes to your vision you have to think BIG.
But when it comes to your habits, you have to think small and manageable.
That’s why choosing to go one more is so powerful.
There’s no pressure to achieve anything, you are simply building good habits and not giving up.
You might not have a $10 million dollar company (yet) but you can certainly reach out to one more potential client today, or shoot one more video for your website, or simply show up one more day…
Some days simply showing up is the W for the day (like I talked about in this blog).
It’s the same with that new workout plan you started.
You won’t lose 20 pounds overnight but you can show up for one more workout, right?
And that’s really it.
Don’t worry tomorrow and don’t worry about the end-result.
Focus on the process and the results will take care of themselves.
This was the mindset I adopted when I first started writing.
SO MANY days I simply showed up and had NO DESIRE, whatsoever, to write.
But my commitment was to write 1000 words every day for a year…. no matter what happened in my life, or how I felt.
There’s was simply no negotiating with myself.
I focused on writing session at a time.
I never worried about the next day’s blog, or what I would possibly write about next.
I simply stacked little wins on top of each other, day after day.
I simply focused on doing one more, just like Nick Bare talks about.
I think all people who have been successful at something realize that there are ALWAYS going to be days where you don’t feel like doing what you know you should…
That’s just the nature of human beings.
We are procrastinators and we want the path of least resistance.
But, the best way to overcome this is to focus on the task-at-hand with complete tunnel vision.
Give your absolute best and when you feel like you don’t have much left in the tank, you go one more.
